When Tracfone BYOP first became available (it started with only certain Verizon 3G compatible phones) there were many limitations on which phones would work.
But now, there are actually very few phones that won't work as long as you follow the basic requirements, and ensure that you will have service in your area.
If you don't have a phone already, follow the basic requirements below for finding a phone: Activating smartphones with Tracfone BYOP has slowly become easier as they have relaxed various restrictions, and become better at activating phones.
In my most recent activation test, I activated an unlocked GSM Moto G.
Smartphones in the BYOP program work similarly to Tracfone's Android offerings.
Note - If you're just looking for the Tracfone BYOP compatible phone list, scroll down to the end.The Tracfone 'Bring Your Own Phone' program is an option for users where one can bring many different Android and Apple smartphones to use with Tracfone's prepaid cell phone service.Tracfone already has several Android smartphones available for customers to purchase and use (and you can see them on our Cell Phone Reviews page), but this program opens the door to many more phone possibilities. We've created a full post on using the Moto G with Tracfone, so take a look! You can also simply activate an unlocked version of the Moto G (either GSM or CDMA), but they usually cost 0-200.
